Univé’s roots go back to 1794, when a group of farmers decided to set up a mutual insurance company. They would check each other’s barn lamps, prevent fire and cover each other’s loss if anything bad happened after all. Set up in 1991 out of the merger of several cooperatives, Univé is now made up of a cooperative group and twelve regional entities, connected to the group under a Cooperation Agreement.

Today, Univé is one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands with 1.6 million customers (out of 17 million inhabitants), the vast majority of whom are also cooperative members.
