Univé was founded in 1794, when a group of farmers decided to create a mutual insurance company. They checked each other’s barn lights, prevented fires and covered expenses if anything happened. Univé was set up in 1991 following the merger of several cooperatives and today consists of a Cooperative Group and twelve regional entities, which are attached to the Group under a Univé Cooperation Agreement.

Univé is now one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands with 1.7 million policyholders, the vast majority of whom are also cooperators of the company.
