Univé was founded in 1794, when a group of farmers decided to create a mutual insurance company. They checked each other’s barn lights, prevented fires and covered expenses if anything happened. Established in 1991 following the merger of several cooperatives, Univé now consists of a Cooperative Group and eight regional entities, affiliated with the Group under a Univé Cooperation Agreement.

Univé is now one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands with 1.8 million policyholders, the vast majority of whom are also cooperators of the company.
